Saturday December 3, Seed dispersal

26 Nov

Instead of our usual 4th Saturday workday, come out for the last stewardship day of the year, on Saturday December 3rd from 9am – 12pm. We’ll collect and distribute seeds, and as always, eradicate errant trash and weeds. Plus there will be snacks.

I’d also like to express my thanks to everyone who has come out to workdays this year. I was honored to accept a stewardship award from the Friends of the Parks on November 13. It was a pleasure to talk about the great work that you all have done to improve the site, and I know it will continue to get better in 2012!

Rainbow Beach is located at 3111 E. 77th St. By foot, walk east from South Shore Dr. on 77th St. By car, enter from 79th St., go past the water treatment plant, and park in the first parking lot. Parking passes are available. Please meet at the nature area, which is located at the southern end of the beach. Tools and equipment will be provided, but please bring water and dress appropriately for the weather. Contact Alison Anastasio at for questions and to RSVP.

Friends of the Parks

If you’re involved with the Chicago Park District, you know the Friends of the Park; they are like fairy godmothers, buzzing around the city’s parks, dropping off trees, volunteers,  and other resources. Each year they acknowledge volunteers who also work to improve Chicago’s parks. I’m honored to say that I was recognized with a stewardship award on behalf of Rainbow Beach Dunes. Congratulations to all the other winners!

Donate early and often.
