Saturday September 24: Native plant installation

18 Sep

Autumn is the perfect time to plant native perennials — after the strong heat of the summer, but before winter creeps in. Join us to plant one of my favorites, Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly milkweed) generously donated by Alliance for the Great Lakes, as well as other native dune plants generously donated by Indiana Nature Conservancy. A great opportunity for gardeners of all ages!

Follow-up: Saturday, August 27 workday

Many thanks to all who came out for the trail marking in August. We had a really fantastic time and were rewarded with delicious homemade ice cream. I was out at the Nature Area the other day and the trail has been cut.  I have to say it looks amazing — makes the area more hospitable and it’s very well done. Thanks to Pizzo and Jason Steger for making it happen. Make time to visit soon, because the little blue stem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is lush and dramatic, red with flowers.
